I woke up thinking perhaps 6 gyroscopes was a little too much for one device… Instead how about a pair of counter rotating gyros inside a gimbal? Now instead of adjusting their speed we simply use some servos to pitch and roll the gimball. Since the gyros ‘fix’ the gimball in place what would actually happen is the controller is pitched and rolled… No yaw, but a simpler, more responsive device….

I’m going to do some more reading, it seems likely that if other people are thinking about this the research might already be out there…. it’s too late to attend the ‘Eurohaptics‘ conference this year 🙂

edit : the guys over at physicsforum seem to agree….
